Hi all,
Could I ask a newbie question. On the trunk port, access mode VLAN will be VLAN 1 by default as the show below:
#sh int t1/0/1 switchport
Name: Te1/0/1
Switchport: Enabled
Administrative Mode: trunk
Operational Mode: trunk
Administrative Trunking Encapsulation: dot1q
Operational Trunking Encapsulation: dot1q
Negotiation of Trunking: On
Access Mode VLAN: 1 (default)
Trunking Native Mode VLAN: 1 (default)
Administrative Native VLAN tagging: enabled
My question: What is the Access Mode VLAN for? and if should we change it to a different VLAN ?
Thank you very much for any reply and I am learning from it...

The access mode vlan tells you which vlan the port will be in if it is an access port.
If the port is a trunk port I never change the access port vlan because there is no need.

Hi,
Access Mode VLAN: 1 (default)
Trunking Native Mode VLAN: 1 (default)
By default, the native VLAN on all Cisco switches is VLAN 1. If you are planning on using a native VLAN (for example for management use) on your trunk ports, it is a good security practice to change it to a different VLAN and shutdown the SVI for VLAN 1 on your switches, Also, if you configure a different native VLAN id, it should be the same on all trunk ports. Also, VLAN 1 can only be shut down but can not be deleted.

Hi Reza
I don't visit as often as I used to nowadays and when I do there is less I can answer.
Good to see you are still answering questions.
Hope everything is good with you.
