I have an Internet (DSL) router going directly to a server. The server is on one switch and tied to this one switch are several other switches serving PCs and Wireless. This doesn't seem right and I believe there should be a router or switch (?) between the server and the DSL router. I'd like to break up and separte the network somewhat.
If I use a switch is it possible to create VLANS and route between them?
Am I stuck using a router and would this be a recomended solution? There's probably a document somewhere showing best practices of setting up a network at the point inside the DSL router.
Thanks!

Hi
You can create different vlans in your switch and do intervlan routing using a L3 device.
If you are DSL router is capable of accommodating different encapsulation you can achieve the same using that or else either you need to go for a L3 switch or a new router..
BTW whats the kinda router you are using over there ?

Thank you for your reply. I'm not sure what type of router is being used as it was supplied by the ISP. As far as I know, it's just a cable or DSL modem which goes directly ot the server.
