Simple question – portchannel / multilink on 1800 ISR.

I have a 1841 ISR that I would like to essentially dual home the Ethernet interfaces to my switch stack.  I was thinking about a portchannel  but looks like that’s not supported on the 1800’s.

What other options do I have.  All I’m trying to do is prevent loss of connectivity to the router if one of the switches goes out.

The wan connection is a multilink made up of two T1’s.

What kind of switches are they in the stack? Do you have the correct IOS version to support routing? If so, just set up L3 links between the switch stack and the router, run a routing protocol (or static routes), reconfigure IP addresses as needed on the switch and router and you should be good.

They are the basic 2960s switches.  No layer 3 license.

Maybe you can use EEM to make this work?

fa0/0 and fa0/1 are configured the same, with fa0/1 in a 'shut' state. EEM monitors the state of fa0/0 and if it goes down, 'no shut' fa0/1.

The switchports that are connected to 0/0 and 0/1 would be configured the same. You would need to be careful during planned power cycles or bringing a switch back after a failure.

I'm no expert with EEM but that might work.
