just a quick clarification on SPAN, I ran into a debate with a colleague.

Span has two ports, destination and source.

Does the destination port need to have a network analyzer attached to it or can I have my network analyzer attached  in a random port  different than source and destination but in the same switch?

Hi,

Based on the original design and logic of the application, it is not possible to have the capture attached into a different port from the one you specify as the destination interface. You can source from a VLAN interface (attached to multiple interfaces), however with SPAN the destination is always a single interface, where the capture should be attached.
