2)i configured spanning-tree vlan 1,7 root primary.i issue the command DS# sh spanning-tree vlan 1
Spanning tree instance(s) for vlan 1 does not exist.
DS# sh spanning-tree vlan 7
Spanning tree instance(s) for vlan 7 does not exist.

Do a "sh vlan" and post the output.
Also, if you do a "sh spanning-tree summary" is there any output at all ?

Hi Ali
Doesn't matter about the L3 interfaces as this is layer 2 we are concerned about. Can you post the output of
1) sh vlan
Then pick one of the vlans and do a
"sh spanning-tree vlan "number you have picked"
2) Post output of "sh run" of switch

You need to have at least one interface up in the vlan for the spanning-tree algorithm to run.
If you have a trunk link that is up then this would do it but if you don't have any trunk links up then you need to bring up a port in the vlan for spanning-tree to start running.
