Hello, I need to plug a Cisco switch in to a production network in order to do some testing.
I understand this will cause a spanning-tree root bridge re-calculation which could take out the network temporarily.
Can I avoid this by simply disabling spanning on the test switch I will be connecting via 'no spanning-tree vlan vlan-id '.
Note there is only 1 PC attached to this new test switch so there is no chance of any loops occurring.
Thank you kindly.

Hi,
There is no need to disable spanning tree. Just make sure the new switch has VTP disabled or in transparent mode and than connect it to the network. Connecting a test switch to production is not going to take out the network temporarily as long as things are configure correctly. I recommend connecting the test switch with one link, so you don't have to worry about any loops.
