srr-queue Bandwidth limit

I am configuring a limit for the bandwidth (up and down) of a client.

I have configured the following on their port:

bandwidth 10240

speed 10

duplex full

srr-queue bandwidth limit 20

I realize there are more robust methods of doing this using class maps, policers, etc., but I am wondering if the above configuration will work and if it has any drawbacks versus using the more complex methods.

Thanks!

Hello Raya,

As you said you are rate-limiting the traffic but not with the granularity that you might need.

If you do not need it and just want to rate traffic as all then you should be good.

In this case you will be rating the interface on a 20 % of the Interface bandwith.

The bandwidth limit command has some advantages, as it effectively shapes all the port traffic.

The bandwidth limit command only applies to egress, ingress will be allowed at full port speed.

The bandwidth limit command is somewhat inexact (it actually works in increments of six if I recall correctly).
