A customer is wanting to VSS their 16 port 4500x with a new 32 port. They also want to add an 8 gig module to the 16, making it a 24 port with a 32 port. Is this possible? I was under the impression that the 4500's must be the exact same port model to VSS.

Yes, you can mix them.
from the datasheet:
Any two Cisco Catalyst 4500-X Series Switches can be pooled together into a VSS. The two switches are connected with 10 Gigabit Ethernet links called Virtual Switch Links (VSLs). Once a VSS is created, it acts as a single virtual Cisco Catalyst switch delivering the following benefits:

Thank you! I reviewed the datasheet but could not find that information for the life of me.

I completely understand. Sometimes, I have a hard time finding something even after reading the whole document.
Good Luck!

Think the datasheet looks different now, "Two Cisco Catalyst 4500-X Series Switches of the same model can be pooled together into a VSS. The two switches are connected with 10 Gigabit Ethernet links called Virtual Switch Links (VSLs). Once a VSS is created, it acts as a single virtual Cisco Catalyst switch delivering the following benefits:"
I believe this means they are not able to form a VSS
