Stacking Cisco 2960X with Cisco 2960S - IOS Upgrade - Stacking modules

Hello guys,

I am planning to stack the switches mentioned above and I have some questions about the procedure.

The 2960S doesn't have a stack module installed yet: is it possible to install it while the switch is running?

I have provisioned the the 2960S(WS-C2960S-24TS-L) on the 2960X with the 2960X configured with prio 15.

1) Will the 2960X auto upgrade the 2960S (IOS versions on the 2960S: 12.2(55)SE7 & 12.2(55)SE3)?

2) Can the stacking be performed while both switches are online?

3) If the IOS is not automatically updated: how do I perform the upgrade and which image will I need? I don't want to create a doorstopper, u know? :) I know about deleting the content of the flash folder and copying the new IOS via TFTP but I'm not quite sure about the different steps exactly so that the switch discovers the new IOS and uses it for booting.

Thanks in advance! :)

You can install the stack module while live , look at this section regarding your ios upgrade between switches in a stack , if unsure before adding switch to stack give it the same ios so there will be no need for upgrade/downgrade between them

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-2960-series-switches/white_paper_c11-578928.html

Stacking can be performed while live but members will reboot as there added , you can only have 4 switches in stack like this
