Hi all

How many switches can we stack in front plane stacking method or stackwise virtual. any supporting documents if possible

For front plane stacking, also known as StackWise, the number of switches that can be stacked depends on the switch model. For example, some Cisco Catalyst 9300 models support a maximum stack size of 8 switches, while others support up to 9 switches (old 3750).

virtual in 9400, 9500, 9600 series switches.

if you read  link I shared, I need to add 
there are two tech 
stackwise-80/160/480 which is in 9200/9300 here is support UP to 8 SW as M02@rt37  mention 
stackwise-virtual (as @Rich R mention) 9500/9600 it support two SW BUT multi supervisor. 
so if you looking for High Availability in SW using multi SUP and config Quad-SUP stack wise 

NOTE:- the stackwise virtual or 80/160/480 need matching software hardware SW
