If I have a standard 2924 switch and I want to connect it to a 2950 switch, what coding do I need to include since the 2950 does not support ISL trunking? thanks

As far as trunking you are out of luck, you need a newer switch to support the standard dot1q . I believe cisco is slowly phasing out ISL as it is proprietary to cisco only.

since 2924 support both isl and dot1q ( Check software version some early versions may not support it)
If you enable the switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q command on the trunk interface on the 2924 to the 2950 all should work fine.
