STANDBY PROCESSOR V-10GE IN DISABLE STATE

Hello,

We have a switch 4507R_E with two processor V-10GE: one active and the othe as standby.

The problem we have is that the standby processor is in disable state.

This is the sh module of the switch:

Can some body tell us which is the procedure to put tha standby processor to active instead of disable?

What is the normal state of standby processor?

Are there some link where we can see in more detail this procedure?

Hi,

No I don't want you to reset it. I mean "reseat".  You just pull Supervisor off and then push it back in. And then you just try the steps I told you to verify it.

Hi,

  It's not normal.

What is the normal state of standby processor?

A:  The output has to be as follows:

Mod  Redundancy role     Operating mode      Redundancy status
----+-------------------+-------------------+----------------------------------

3   Standby Supervisor          SSO                 Standby hot
4   Active Supervisor             SSO                    Active

A: You may need to carefully reseat SupV-10GE on module 3.

Step 1 Ensure that the LED labeled Status is green (module operational).

Step 2 When the switch is online, enter the show module command. Verify that the system acknowledges the new module and that the module's status is good.

Step 3 If  the module is not operational, reseat it. If the module is still not  operational, contact your customer service representative.

HTH,

Hi Toshi,

Whish is the procedure to reset carefully the processor V-10GE in slot 3?

Do we must connect via console cable to the supervisor and then use the command: reset ?

Will affect this operation the operation of the switch 4507R_E? (this switch is the CORE of a computer center).

Waiting your sooner answer.

Lima-Peru.

Hi,

Just try to reseat SupV-10GE on module3.

Removing the Supervisor Engine

All Catalyst 4500 series switches support hot swapping, which lets you  install, remove, replace, and rearrange supervisor engines and switching  modules without powering the system off. When the system detects that a  switching module has been installed or removed, it runs diagnostic and  discovery routines automatically, acknowledges the presence or absence  of the module, and resumes system operation with no operator  intervention.

To check the status of the module, follow these steps:

Step 1  Ensure that the LED labeled Status is green (module operational)

Step 2  When the switch is online, enter the show module command. Verify that the system acknowledges the new module and that the module's status is good.

Step 3  If   the module is not operational, reseat it. If the module is still not   operational, contact your customer service representative.

HTH,

Toshi

Toshi,

Thanks for your answer.

But i have one question about the procedure to reset the processor in standby:

  1. we reset the processor using the console connection of the processor? or
  2. using the command from the ACTIVE PROCESSOR:
    1. REDUNDANCY RELOAD PEER ?

Waiting your sooner asnwer.

HTH,

Toshi,

That is right.

Today I am going to reseat the module and follow the procedure you told me.

I am going to tell you the results.

Thanks.

Toshi,

I reseated the processor standby module and it is in standby_hot instead of disable.

I used many command to confirm this is state and id o.k.

Thanks very much.
