Hi,
I'm looking for what's typical (best-practices) for wiring a modem that is delivering multiple static IPs.
Right now my business has a cable modem (no NAT or DHCP on it) with a single ethernet jack and a single static IP. That jack is wired to an ASA which is our gateway and VPN device.
I'm about to order a second static IP address, which will be for a router that will be handling SIP trunks.
Since I've never done this set up before I wanted to find out what is typical.
I was thinking of coming out of the modem to a simple 4 port switch, then out of the switch to the ASA, and out of the switch to the router. I'm assuming the new IP address will be on the same sub-net as the existing one, so having all three devices hanging off the same switch should work.
Is there a better way of configuring this or will just a small switch do the trick?
Thanks!
Steve
