STP setup

Hi,

I not sure about the best way to setup STP in my environment.

I have attached a snapshot of my setup.

My primary site has a pair of 3548 setup with VPC.
On the DR site i have one 3548. Sites connected with 10G and one old multimode 1G as backup.
All my access-switches is connected to both sites with singlemode 1G.

I would like my sites to be connected in the following prio order.

1. 10G, dedicated
2. 1G multimode, dedicated
3. By use one of the access switches, shared

Also I want my 2960:s to uplink to my primary site first and to my DR as backup.

This scenario is not yet setup in production environment... but soon.

How do I setup this up in the easiest way?

Hi Pelle -

In order to minimize STP blocking, I suggest the following:

  1. 10G and 1G connections from primary site N3Ks to DR N3K should be vPCs
  2. Allow STP to distinguish between 1G and 10G connections by enabling long path counters ("spanning-tree pathcost method long") (all switches)
  3. Set your primary N3Ks as the STP root (priority 0)
  4. Set your DR N3K as the STP alternate root (priority 8192)
  5. All other switches should have default priority
