Strange Occurence upon VLAN creation. Has anybody seen this?

Hello Folks,

We have a production 4500 with redundant sups (IVs).  This has been in production for quite sometime (5 plus years).

When I create a VLAN in global, it hangs for like 5 seconds and then my CLI comes back up.  I don't see any memory issues.  VTP is transparent.  It isn't service affecting.  I'm just curious if this is cause for concern?  I get quite nervous everytime I have to create a VLAN.  Is this normal or acceptable behavior?  Has anybody seen this?

Thanks to anybody that can shine some light or alleviate concern.

I see this on 3750's all the time. Scares me too!

I've seen it on 3750s. I don't think it's a cause for concern. What I believe is happening, and this is just a guess, is that when you add the vlan and you have trunks, by default all vlans are allowed over the trunk. If you have several interconnects, it's possible that it's modifying all of those to allow the vlan over the trunks...this is purely a guess...

John,

Interesting perspective.  Still quite anxiety producing!

Anybody else have any further insight?
