supervisor 7-E for 4510R-E

hello experts,

there's 4510RE with dual supervisor 6E, with the limitation of Bandwidth per Line Card Slot Using Supervisor 6-E

>> Up to 24 Gbps on slots 1-4 and 7; 6 Gbps only on slots 8-10

If I replace sup6 with the new Supervisor 7-E , will it help increase the BW available to slots 8-10? I know that the BW for slots 1-4,7 will be 48. What about others?

After all,  would you recommend going for sup7 at all? My key factor is stability, not performance. Is the sup7 with IOS15 as stable as sup6 with IOS12?

Yes it will. The suprevisor 7-E supports 48Gbps per slot as long as you have an E chassis and are using E series line cards, see table 2 in the datasheet  for confirmation -

As for statbility, well it's a new supervisor but it will have undergone extensive testing. However you are in luck as there currently is an "Ask the Experts" Q&A on the sup 7E going on. You should post this question in there to get a more complete answer -

Hi Igor

You will not be able to run 48Gbit to your linecards without upgrading your chassis to 4510R+E. Unfortunately Cisco made an error when they designed the E series chassis so you can't get 48Gbit when running with redundant supervisors (4507R-E/4510R-E).

If you upgrade to sup7 you well get 24Gbit on all slots when using the 4510R-E chassis.
