Hi,

I am confusing performance of SVI and Inter VLAN routing.

I would like to know which is more best practice. I have two scenario.

Eg.

1. cisco c892 have 2 x 1G WAN port and 8x 1G Switches port.we can configure one port as a trunk port and i create interface VLAN in router and run static route to communicate to our DC.(We are not using internet access).

2. i configure routing on the stick by creating sub interface in router PORT and route.

i would like to know which one can get best performance ?

Which one can control easily ?

All are the same ?

Hi

In a standard network, they are quite the same. On this this router, because you have a switch integrated, spanning-tree will be working no matter if it's a svi or sub interface.

In terms of software, depending on the platform and ios version, you can have some limitations on a svi. The most frequent are service policies capabilities differ if it's on a svi vs sub interface.

There's also a delay for convergence time that's higher on a svi compared to sub interface which is the lowest.

Thanks
Francesco

Hello

if this router has an intergrated switch then run the vlans off an SVI (interface vlan xx)
