Hello there,
We would like to monitor and report our Switch CPU's.
Are there default values for a 3750 and 2960 for nomal use. At which level we should be alarmed?
I know the architecture of the switch (sofware and harware switching/routing etc..) But which levels are critical or major...
I have no experience with that topic and some ideas would be nice.
regards,
Sebastian

Sebastian,
There's really no "default value" for CPU usage, I have seen 3750/2960s running ~40% and that was totally normal for that particular network. You might want to monitor the CPU usage on days that things are working great and use that as a base line. If you are seeing a large jump or consistent climbing over longer period of time (more than 10~15min) than you might want to take a look at the switch's health condition. CPU spikes for short duration could be normal depending on the switch configs.

Hi
Based on my experience normally the low end switches show a utilization of 20 to 30% with predominantly LED related process/line item leading the chunk of other processes. I would definetely get alarmed if it goes more than 75% and stays on there. There can be sudden spikes after which the utilization may come back to normal but if it maintains the level utilization then its time to start doing the troubleshooting process.
