Whenever I change the switch priority on a 3850 switch stack that is already configured, ports between the switch stacks become err-disabled. I usually default the interface then add it again. Once I finish defaulting and adding the interfaces, I then shut and no shut the interface. There has to be an easier way to do this. How do I keep interfaces from becoming err-disabled when changing switch priority.

That is not normal. Changing the priority value should not effect the stack or the ports.
The new priority value takes effect immediately but does not affect the current active switch. The new priority value helps determine which stack member is elected as the new active switch when the current active switch or the switch stack resets.

Reza,
I didn't think that this situation was normal and I'm trying to find a way to keep the ports from becoming err-disabled when changing the switch priority.

Perry,
This maybe an IOS issue/bug that is causing it to behave this way. What version of IOS is the stack running?

Reza,
The IOS version is 3.7.4 for the 3850 stack.

Perry,
Looking at the release notes, I don't see any reference to stack priority issues. It could also be that the issue has not been reported yet. I recommend you open a case with TAC and have them look at their data base for further references.

Perry,
Not really knowing if reloading the stacked switches is a possibility in your environment but I would recommend a power cycle. I usually have small bug issues with both 2960X & 3850 switches and a simple reload resolves these small bug/issues.
Hope this helps!
