Switch Processor vs Route Processor

Hi,

Kindly explain the terms such as Switch Processor,Route Processor,L3 Engine, L2 Engine, Forwarding Engine etc and how are they related to each other.

SP is the L2 "brains"

RP is the L3 "brains"

SP = L2 engine

RP = L3 engine

Forwarding engine could be either, although often more used for L3.
