Switch Stack maintenance - How to replace 1 switch in a Stack

Hello Community.

My Cisco knowledge is limited but a work in progress!

Can someone tell me the proper way to replace a switch in a stack.  Please provide as much detail as possible.

Example scenario, 3 switches in a stack with stackwise cables, how to replace one of the switches with a spare on hand.

Do I have to wipe the spare first?

I assume downtime required to replace switch in the stack?

Should I turn off all switches in the stack and then unplug stackwise cables, connect replacement and power up?

How does the replacement switch get it's config?

Anything else you my be able to add.

Much appreciated!

Dan

The spare unit must NOT have any config (including VLAN.DAT file).

Of course.

Only unplug the unit that needs to be removed, remove the stacking cable, insert the new unit, insert the cable and then apply power.
