talking between two differant switchs on differant vtp domains.

i have vtp 2 networks and i want to pass traffic between the two networks. Would i be right in thinking that if the link ports between the switchs and all the access ports are on the same vlan id then devices on 1 vtp domain will talk to devices on the other vtp domain. The link using dot1q trunking as it will be 3 or 4 vlans that will need to talk to each other in the end.

e.g.

switch 1 on vtp domain VTP1 using vlan 10 on all access ports

connected using dot1q trunking to

switch 2 on vtp domain VTP2 using vlan 10 on all access ports

Hi Adam,

In that example, yes, the traffic would be correctly passed between the two switches. As long as there is a trunk connecting the two switches then VLAN 10 would be carried over the link.

The VTP domains soimply mean that the two switches would not share VLAN management information between them. So, a VLAN that you create on Switch A would not be created on Switch B via the VTP process.
