Hi everybody,

The output shown below is the error logs which I am getting continuously on my Nexus 7010 console.

Can anyone suggest me why it is happening. And in show environment temperature command I can see all the modules are perfect.

According to the logs XBAR 3 & 4 are briefly overheating and then cooling down as the fans and air-con kick in.

I would have a look at the air flow around your 7010. This switch has front-to-back air flow. Therefore it may be sucking in hot air from devices in racks nearby that are generating heat.

Also check that you have sufficient clearance around your switch as specified by the guide below.

Hi Sean,

Your observation is correct I agree. But we have sufficient space around the switch. And more over if it is sucking hot air which is coming from other devices why it is not effecting other xbar modules. And in older logs I found that xbar-5 also giving the same minor temperature alarm and later it automatically recovered. No idea how it got recovered. Can you explain it and please share if you have any other suggestion which may hit my question.

Thanks a lot for your time.

Regards,

Sangeeth BS

I was getting this alert on our Nexus 7010 as shown below.  I cleaned the filter on the front of the Nexus which was very dusty and dirty.  After that I never received another temperature alert.  This alert was coming up about every 10 to 15 minutes.

%PLATFORM-2-MOD_TEMPOK: Xbar-3 recovered from minor temperature alarm. Sensor=3 Temperature=78 MinThreshold=95

I hope this helps.

Sangeeth,

The first thing that you will want to verify is the physical condition of
the switch. The Nexus 7010 chassis used a front-to-back airflow model. see
the diagram below for a reference:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/hw/nexus7000/installation/guide/n
7k_hig_book/n7k_sys_specs.html#wp1039713

You will want to ensure that there is nothing blocking the intake or
exhaust vent of the switch. Also look at the front intake fan to see if
there is dust, or some other material that has accumulated that could be
impeding air intake.
Also verify if there is a device that is exhausting hot air towards the
intake of the switch.

2)
In case if you already checked the colling you can give the below try:-
Please remove and thoroughly clean the air filter located on the front of the Nexus 7010.
Find below the instructions for cleaning the Nexus 7010 air filter:

Thanks, I  had this alarm in the Neus 7k:

2015 Jul 13 18:31:20 BD01NEX7010 %PLATFORM-2-MOD_TEMPOK: Xbar-3 recovered from m
inor temperature alarm. Sensor=3 Temperature=94 MinThreshold=95

I removed and cleaned the air filter located on the front of the Nexus 7010 and now is ok.

Hi ,

I was also facing the same issue . Below are the logs:

"

2017 Mar  8 13:28:58 # %PLATFORM-2-MOD_TEMPOK: Xbar-3 recovered from minor temperature alarm. Sensor=3 Temperature=83 MinThreshold=95"

#Show env temperature

Module   Sensor        MajorThresh   MinorThres   CurTemp     Status

                       (Celsius)     (Celsius)    (Celsius)

--------------------------------------------------------------------

xbar-1   Intake  (s2)    60              42          28         Ok

xbar-1   Crossbar(s3)    105             95          68         Ok

xbar-2   Intake  (s2)    60              42          31         Ok

xbar-2   Crossbar(s3)    105             95          71         Ok

xbar-3   Intake  (s2)    60              42          32         Ok

xbar-3   Crossbar(s3)    105             95          87         Ok

xbar-4   Intake  (s2)    60              42          30         Ok

xbar-4   Crossbar(s3)    105             95          88         Ok

xbar-5   Intake  (s2)    60              42          28         Ok

xbar-5   Crossbar(s3)    105             95          98         MinorAlarm

  • Crossbar alarms are usually the first to trigger when the filter causes high temperature.

  • Action Plan:

Thanks
