Hello everyone, I have a problem using Cisco 9500-16X-A with Terra Christie.
Terra Christie is a system for SDVoE in this case I am using for a videowall. I did a configuration based on IGMPv2, as the Christie uses, as you can see below:

And I have this problem:
I doesn't create the groups of IGMP, so I do not know what happen this. Please, I will really appreciate that you could help me. In my software Terra Manager, I see this:
Receiver status is "stopped", so I cannot display anything on my screen. What do you can recommend me to solve this problem.
Port 1: Controller
Port 2: Transmitter
Port 5: Receiver
Port 11: PC
Currently, I am using that for the test. Thank you in advance.

Hey @lejarac
Can you please share a simple network diagram ? Just the Basic elements
06-30-2023 03:05 PM
Hi, of course. It's something like this (it's not exactly):
The test I am proving is just one receiver and one transmitter (I am reducing for test). Also, the IP I'm using is 192.168.1.1 for this test. However, the final architecture is:
First, I want to go in parts, 1 by 1, for this reason I am proving with 1 receiver, 1 transmitter, 1 controller and switch 9500-16X-A.
I am using for this test:
Vlan1: 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
Te1/0/1 (controller) 192.168.1.50 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1
Te1/0/2 (transmitter) 192.168.1.54 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1
Te1/0/5 (receiver) 192.168.1.58 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1
VLAN 20: 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0
Te1/0/11 (PC) 192.168.2.18 255.255.255.0 192.168.2.1
That's all that I am using. If you need extra information, feel free to tell me. Thank you in advance.

Also, I want to know a configuration or something like that about:
"Drop Unregistered Multicast". Is it possible to configure that?
06-30-2023 04:15 PM
Do you mean, create some kind of filter?
06-30-2023 04:43 PM
Yes, I have seen that on some old switch, like this:
On the other hand, do you find a problem on my configuration or something like that? I am not sure if the problem is the switch, controller or configuration on switch but it is between these 3 things.
06-30-2023 04:56 PM
No I didn´t and I have this same question if the problem is actually the switch. I was taking a look on this solution first and it is very complex, I mean, it is not about start a video and replicate to some devices like we usually do with multicast. This solution have the Controller which might play an importante role on the process.
I am taking a look on the vendor site in order to get familiar with the solution. Did you get anything from them like how the switch must be configured? I believe they should have something to share.

Well, they only have documentation about NetGear. They work with Netgear switches but the requirement of the switch is the first image.
Christie said that Netgear has some configuration for default to work this system but I find this:
It seems like the same that we do on cisco, it's so strange. Christie doesn't have a official documentation about using Cisco but they showed the requirements for using a switch that "should work". Also, I have this documentation:
These are all that I have.
06-30-2023 05:34 PM - edited 06-30-2023 05:39 PM
I got it but dont overthink about the switch. I would say the config you have is pretty much what we know that is necessary.
What you can do, if possible, is replace the devices by laptop/PC and try to simulate the stream. There is free vdeio streamer on the internet. I used to run those in GNS3 lab just fine. This way you can validate the switch side.
Seach for VLC video streamer

Yeah I get it your idea; however, the problem (I think) is that solution or test is in 1G. When I connect laptops or pc's my switch recognize and show their multicast address but as you can see 10G doesn't show. In the image about "show ip igmp snooping groups" "show ip igmp groups" show the controller but doesn't show the receiver or transmitter. I think that test that you recommend me is ok on 1G but on 10G would be different. I am sure the problem are not transmitters and receivers because I connect direct between them and it show the image correctly. Do you think that test that you recommend to do would demonstrate that switch is working well and the problem is the controller? I do not know if is the switch or controller but I would like to be sure one of them to ask for a change. When Christie entered to the software and I sent them the log of the controller. They told me that controller is working well but they do not know if the problem is the switch, commands, the compatibility because they use netgear, or something like that. They asked me about "Drop Unregistered Groups", too. Also, why the switch doesn't show the groups. On the other hand, when I restart some receivers or transmitters in a point appears the receiver in the group and it works well but when other receiver try to appers, disappear both of them, that happen me when I did my tests trying to find a solution. What do you think is the most possibility between the controller and switch is working bad? In addittion, I got some problems with 2 ports (port 15 and 16) on switch trying to do "ping", so for this reason I changed my test using port 11. I would really appreciatte your honest opinion or answer about this. Again, thank you so much for your time and your help.

" I am sure the problem are not transmitters and receivers because I connect direct between them and it show the image correctly."
How is that? Do you mean without the switch?
Then, why to you need tbe switch?
Why dont just offer basically connectivity with vlan?
I am still trying to understand the role of the controller. Is it part of IGMP or not?
And I dont follow you when you say 1 giga or 10 giga. From the protocol perspective, does it matter?
06-30-2023 08:21 PM
- Connection direct: Source (whatever PC) to transmitter (via HDMI) and transmitter to Receiver (via fiber) and Receiver to screens (via HDMI). When I do that it works well.
- When do I connect without any configuration on switch the behavior takes as unicast and it shows the same image (1 source) on 3 receivers (screens). I connect 3 transmitters and 3 receivers whitout any configuration it takes as unicast and just send 1 source to 10 screens.
- The controller function is to manage the signal of transmitter and put on the receivers, I can configure different displays on screens, on a screen I can divide 16x6 with the controller, or put 1 transmitters on 2 receivers, or put 1 transmitter replicate on 3 receivers, something like that. It is the function of controller, to able to do these kind of configurations.
- I mean about 1G or 10G because 1G the signal is compressed and 10G is uncompressed, so the amount of information is a lot on 10G. The protocol could works well on 1G but maybe on 10G not. Perhaps the design of the switch or the information is flooded (Christie says that) and the multicast addresses are not displayed or it is lost (it does not support it), sometimes another appears and arrives and both disappear. I'm not sure if there's something wrong with the switch or it is the controller. Previously, when I tried it with 2 transmitters and 2 receivers, it had worked for me, but that was about 3 or 4 months ago, for that reason there were these possibilities that I tried for 2 weeks:
* Bad configuration on the switch.
* The switch has been damaged.
* The controller has been damaged.
I tried different kind of configuration and I do not think it is the problem, and now I am more sure with your answer about configuration, so the problem is the switch, controller or something hardware. The fiber is ok (I tested) and also I can do ping between devices, to level on IP addresses I can do normally with the switch without problems but the problem is with addresses multicast. If you see that we need to configure something else, prove something on switch, or something that you think is the problem, please tell me.
Also, I would like to know about "Drop Unregistered Groups", if it is possible to configure that or to corroborate that does the switch meet this requirement mentioned by Christie?

"- I mean about 1G or 10G because 1G the signal is compressed and 10G is uncompressed, so the amount of information is a lot on 10G. The protocol could works well on 1G but maybe on 10G not."
Totally disagree. Protocol bahavior can not be related to interface capacity. I would agree if the device capacity where put in question but the protocol does not care if 1kps or 10Gbps.
The way I see it, the Controller does not participate the IGMP. It is just a setup on how you are going to show the information on the screen.
The IGMP is made of Transmiter and receiver, as it always should be.
Have you tried to take another switch and test? It can be some problem on the Cisco switch related to bug, for example. I dont believe it would be misconfiguration unless this solution needs something specific.
I´ve been searching for "Drop Unregistered Groups", but I failed to find anything usefull. And I dont know why it would be importante.

hi,
you might want to try storm-control multicast level 90, however XE does not have the unregistered-multicast tag yet, only "multicast" .So I don't know what it will do. I'd be curious to find out

Hi everyone, I wanted to know if my configurations was correct or incorrect, I had asked for a new switch for monday 03/07/2023, so I did the same configuration with some difference but basically same and it finally works. I am using a cisco Nexus 9396PX. It seems the cisco 9500-16X-A was the problem. Thank you so much @Flavio Miranda and @jsaBE for your answers.
