tftpdnld rommon procedure not working

Hi everyone,

Can someone help me how to restore my ios back to my cisco 2801 router.

I accidently deleted the ios from flash, while booting the router the cisco router gives "cannot load flash boot"

I saw on google that you can use a tftpdnld procedure.

I'm using this procedure with a tftp server , i used 2 different tftp server programs unfortunaly with no success.

Someone told me that tftp server is not supporting files bigger 50 mb.

That's why i've used also a ftp/sftp software neither that didnt help.

You can see that it receives the action in your router....

But at the end it says:

TFTP timed out.

Operation terminated.

Get the smallest version of iOS with the least features you can find for the 2801. Upgrade to that using the rommon tftp process. Once that is loaded, then upgrade to your production version as you normally would.

Thanks it worked!

I've downloaded the smallest ios file copied it again from tftp server.

After that i've deleted the ios and copied the right ios back again in to my cisco router

( boot system flash c2801......)

Errrr ... I would like to ask you this question:  WHY, oh why, are you still using such archaic command, the TFTPDNLD, when the ISR router you are using has a COMPACT FLASH and a USB port????

1.  Eject the CF

2.  Connect to your client;

3.  Copy IOS from the client to CF;

4.  Insert CF;

5.  Boot router.

Time spent:  5 minutes.
