Theoretical question about stack

Suppose we have a stack of 6 switches (Catalyst 3850) with cross-stack EtherChannel to core as uplink... Assume that the switch 5 receives a frame on its access port with the destination address to core... Assume that ether-channel load-balance algorithm decides that the given frame should go through interface Te1/1/1...
Question, is the stacking technology (StackWise-480) "smart enough to understand" that the shortest path from the switch 5 to interface Te1/1/1 interface is through the switch 6, not throuth the switch 4?

Please, see attached picture...

I haven't seen much documentation about how any of the Cisco stacks decide which stack port to use, but I recall reading something about it might just be based on stack port load.
