Hi,
Could anyone give me a thouhgt why I cannot traceroute a server from the distribution router? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Senario:
I have few servers connected in access switch and all respective switch ports are assigned to particular vlan. We dont have any ACL applied to this VLAN. i can ping all servers from local LAN and there are no DNS issue. now the interesting thing is when I traceroute the ip address of the server from the distribution (which is one hop away from the access switch), all are successful except one server. I dont have access to the server hence i dont know if there is any issue with the server itself. is there anything that i need to check why the trace route is failing for only one server?
Thanks
Sukanta

Hi,
you can try to trace from a windows host and see if it works because traceroute in IOS is udp based and in windows it is icmp based.
You can also change the source ip of the traceroute on your router.

Hi,
Thanks for your input. Yes, I have tried from the windows host and traceroute output is same. I have also tried using different source address and the result is same. I have also verified the arp table and layer 2 connectivity. This is first time I am seeing this issue. Anyway, thanks again. much appreciated.
