Troubleshooting Ethernet Connection Issue on Cisco 6509

Hi all,

So I am trying to troubleshoot one issue on Cisco 6509. A few devices in this switch are not able to receive Internet via Ethernet connection. I tried to trace the ports these devices are connected to using Link Runner. During that time I saw plenty of ports were just off(no light). So i couldn't trace the devices to their respective ports. I checked the Vlan these devices are in and a lot of ports said "notconnected". So I ran "sh ip int br" and these ports had their port status down and link protocol down. They won't turn on using "no shut". What would you guys recommend for something like this?

Hi

First i would connect a laptop directly to the 6500 ports rule out the switch and its ports as being the issue  , if its working directly connected then you may have an issue with your patch panel and it will need to be checked , especially if multiple ports are down

also check your module which those ports belong to  are ok status with show module

if its down/down its some layer 1 physical issues , whether cabling , patch panel etc not working right

if the ports come up/up then when directly connected without internet check your device which is doing the NAT , probably a router connected to the 6500
