Hi
I am installing a fresh Catalyst Express 500 switch (WS-CE500-24TT), but the GUI url is not opening as mentioned in the user manual.
Proxy and Pop up blocker are disabled in the browser. The IP address at the terminal is configured as 10.0.0.2/24. When pressed setup button, the first port of the switch blinks. When the terminal is connected to the first port (straight cable), and when tried to ping 10.0.0.1, am able to ping only for few seconds. If tried opening the browser, the GUI of the switch is unaccessible. It says page cannot be displayed. Kindly help.

I'm curious as to what the date stamp on the top of the switch is. I received a batch of these with the GUI files missing in flash (dated early-mid November 2006).
If you can see the reply from this:
http://ipaddress/level/15/exec
you can use the software-reload commands to upload the 12.2(25)SEG image to restore the GUI files.
(had to do this about on 10 different CE500 boxes)

Hi
My suggestion is Factory Default.
Procedure
Unplug the power cord from the switch.
1.While you plug back in the power to the switch, hold the Setup button.
2.Wait until all LED indicator (System, Alert, and PoE) lights turn amber and release the Setup button.
3.When you see one of the switch ports LED blinks green, connect your PC to that port.
The LAN adapter of this PC must be configured to get the IP address via DHCP. The LEDs on the PC
and the switchport blink green while the switch configures the connection (this takes around one
minute).
4.Open a web browser. If the browser does not pull up the GUI automatically, then go to
5.From the Software Recovery window, you can choose:
Erase system configuration
Use this option to delete all the configuration settings on the switch, including the IP address,
usernames, and passwords, but retain the software image. If you select this option, you must
set up the switch again, as described in the Initial Switch Configuration section.
?
Boot with the factory default IOS image
Use this option to use the factory-default software image. Settings for features supported on
the default software image are retained, including the IP address, usernames, and passwords.
Use this option if a software upgrade fails. Display the device manager, and try to upgrade the
switch software again.
?
Erase system configuration and boot with the factory default IOS image
Use this option to delete all of the configuration settings on the switch and to change to the
factory-default software image. All files on the switch Flash image are deleted and the switch
returns to using the factory default image. If you select this option, you must set up the switch
again, as described in the Initial Switch Configuration section.

Cristian
