I have a Catalyst 2960-X stack that I am trying to configure.
I am able to log into the web interface. So I can log into the web interface and deal with the very limited interface there (I can enable/disable ports if I want there), but if I want to log into the console I can't get past the authentication. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on? I don't have a lot of configuration on the switch, but I would like to avoid a factory reset if at all possible.

- That depends on what the exact-returned-error message is. If it relates to authentication failure , you may have entered an incorrect password.

1. Have you tested your console cable and terminal emulator (eg. putty) on another switch with success?
2. If you reboot the switch with console do you get post output?
3. Have you tried using ssh or telnet to the same interface as the web?
If yes to 1 it could be that your console line is shut or protected while your vty line for the web interface is active.
So if you can, enable line con 0 on the webinterface or remove protections.
If no to 2 you do not have console connectivity and somewhere your hardware is broken
if yes to 3 then use that instead of console
