Unicast / Multicast for same port

Scenario :

20 servers on same vlan , subnet 10.152.5.x

100+ security cameras on 3 vlans , subnet 10.152.0.x, 10.152.1.x 10.152.2.x

Goal1 : I need to have the servers communicate with each other using uncast and multicast

Goal2 : for the cameras that support multicast i need to have them communicate using uncast and multicast with the server(s)

Question : What would be a good approach for :

     - trying to setup 2 vlans on the same port  ( like https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/thread/3460 or

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/cisco/nsp/108502 ) or try to setup 2 subnets on the same vlan ?

Appreciate the help .

Dan

Hi,

for goal one as all servers are in the same vlan then you should have nothing special to do.

for goal 2 and unicast then just do inter-vlan routing and for multicast you can use PIM.

So you can leave the setup with ports belonging to one vlan( access ports) for machines and trunk port to router.

Regards.
