Hi,

I am having two 3750 in stack and I am thinking toreplace a GBIC from1 gb to 10 gb which is connecting to 6500 switch.  I am not sure if Core will support this connectivity?

Core:

   1    2     1000BaseX Supervisor      WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE     yes standby

15  1    1     Multilayer Switch Feature WS-F6K-MSFC2        no  ok

2   2    2     1000BaseX Supervisor      WS-X6K-S2-MSFC2     yes ok

16  2    1     Multilayer Switch Feature WS-F6K-MSFC2        no  ok

3   3    16    1000BaseX Ethernet        WS-X6416-GBIC       no  ok

8   8    48    10/100BaseTX Ethernet     WS-X6348-RJ-45      no  ok

9   9    48    10/100BaseTX Ethernet     WS-X6348-RJ-45      no  ok

Hi Rohit,

As per the datasheet for 10Gig cards for 6500, they are supported only on Supervisor Engine 720

It doesn't appear you have any 10g ports on your 6500.

Since you're using sup2s, I'm unsure they support 10g line cards.

Thank You.

I was planning to use 10 gb module instead of 1gb with my new 3750 switch.

Adding to my thread, I am planning to use 10gn module on 3750 and not on 6500. I am leaving 6500 as it is and planning to uplink 3750 with 10gb module to 6500. Hope this will clear my query.

That will not work.  You can not connect a 10Gig port to a 1Gig port.  Both sides have to have the same speed

If you want to replace your 3750 module and use a 10Gig, then you need a 10Gig module on the 6500 side too.

BTW, you could connect the 10Gig 3750 to the 6500 if you had a Sup with 10Gig ports on it.  Yours does not have any.

Hi Rohit,

Yes we got that, You will use 10Gig on 3750 and 1 gig on 6500.

3750---10Gig---------------1Gig 6500.

This way it doesnt work. Both sides need to be on same speed and duplex. The problem you have encoutered is that your Core Switch 6500 doesnt have 10 GB support either on Sup module nor it supports 10 Gig line cards :-(

Hence conclusion you cannot use this setup..
