Uplinks

Hi,

The Cisco 3560G switch comes with gigabit ethernet ports and SFP ports.

If i have another switch with gigabit copper and i want to connect them, is there any "special" benefit in using ports labelled as uplinks?

Do they have more bandwidth to the backplane? or is it OK to just to uplink to any port (as long as the speeds are the same).

The reason i ask is that i will be connecting a 2960 with 1gb copper uplinks to the 3960G. However to use the uplinks i will need to purchase an additional SFT 1000BASE-T transciever for the 3560G. Would it be acceptable to use one of the "normal" copper gig ports on the 3560G as an uplink?

Hello Andy,

the ports on the 3560G are grouped in pairs, that is, port 1 and port 2 are a pair, port 3 and port 4, and so on. Other than that, there is TMBK no difference between the 10/100/1000 ports, meaning that you can use any port as an uplink...
