I'm also installing POE cameras in my house, and going to start studying for my CCNP

why a 6509? well cost/benift

1. its what i work with at work

2. they are cheap on ebay and the old modules are cheap to and they are cheap then 6503, 6504 or 6506 used for som reason

I plan to run this

slot 1: SUP

Slot 2: SUP (spare when fundas allow)

slot3: WS-X6408A-GBIC

slot 5:  WS-X6348-RJ45V

Two 1300Watt power supploes

I need to run IOS( I hate Cat OS plus we run IOS at work (SXI4 for VSS)

what sup will support this? can i use a WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE or do i need a WS-X6K-S2-PFC2 or WS-X6K-S2-MSFC2 ???

very confused (this is why i'm doing this i learn by doing and to get familer with the hardware this is best way for me)

I assmue i need the MSFC for layer 3 fuctions and routing options right ?

Hope that helps.

thanks!

From what i can find the Sup 32 has the MSFC biult in already right ?

Hi Andrew,
yes, all sup32 models have  built in msfc2a.
WS-SUP32              +  WS-F6K-PFC3B    +  WS-F6K-MSFC2A =  WS-SUP32-GE-3B
WS-SUP32              +  WS-F6K-PFC3B    +  WS-F6K-MSFC2A =  WS-SUP32-10GE-3B
WS-SUP32-PISA         +  WS-F6K-PFC3B    +  WS-F6K-MSFC2A =  WS-S32-GE-PISA
WS-SUP32-PISA         +  WS-F6K-PFC3B    +  WS-F6K-MSFC2A =  WS-S32-10GE-PISA
Cheers,
Shashank

Thank however it seems the Sup 32 is way out of my Price range for this!!!

I know we had IOS running on 2 switches at work with Sup 2's we just upgraded everything to 720's

Does anyone know what Sup2s support the ISO ? (from the sofware advisor it seem the the SFP + MSFC is the only one, can anyone confirm this?

Hi Andrew,

All Sup2 supervisors can run IOS. However, to support routing, you will need a sup2 with MSFC2.

Hope that helps,

Shashank
