How do I configure my switches (several different models) to display messages to the console. I want to be able to view interfaces up/down messages. Seems the default configuration had this but I have since lost that view.
I have added the commands...
(config)# logging console informational
and added "logging synchronous" to line and vty
TIA

Your configuration looks correct. Does sh logging shows the number of messaged logged to the console:
something like this:
Console logging: level debugging, 46053 messages logged

the "sh log" command...
Console logging: level informational, 48 messages logged, xml disabled,
filtering disabled
Monitor logging: level debugging, 0 messages logged, xml disabled,
filtering disabled
Buffer logging: level debugging, 19122 messages logged, xml disabled,
filtering disabled
But when I do shut or no shut on a port... nothing is displayed in console

Have you tried resting it?
no loggin con
logg con ....
If you login to the device via telnet or ssh, you can also use "ter mon" to see the logs on the console in real time.

I did try to disable and then enable logging console but it did not help
I use ter mon/ter no mon now but I get EVERY message. I just want to see int up/down messages.
TIA

So, you see the logs in real time but not in console buffer when you issue sh loogi?
