Hi everybody
How is everyone?
A virtual is established between R1 and R3
R1 and R3 both are connected via virtual link.
R1 is configured to use Md5 on virtual link while R3 is not.
I am surprised to find the link stay up even when i reset the ospf process on r3.
Is it the normal behavior ?
Below is the config:
R3 config:
router ospf 1
router-id 3.3.3.3
log-adjacency-changes
area 1 virtual-link 1.1.1.1
network 198.198.198.0 0.0.0.255 area 0
network 199.199.199.0 0.0.0.255 area 1
!
R1 config:
router ospf 1
router-id 1.1.1.1
log-adjacency-changes
area 1 virtual-link 3.3.3.3 authentication message-digest
area 1 virtual-link 3.3.3.3 message-digest-key 1 md5 zee
network 10.0.0.0 0.255.255.255 area 0
network 200.200.200.0 0.0.0.255 area 1

Hi Sarah,
I belive you are using GNS3. Which image are you using. I labbed it on a 7200 and can see the virtual link bounce.
