Hi Team,

I have an issue, I have checked the router and found all L2 ports are down but vlan 1 is up...I dont know why it is happening..please have a look in below config output::

Interface IP-Address OK? Method Status Protocol

FastEthernet0 unassigned YES unset down down

FastEthernet1 unassigned YES unset up down

FastEthernet2 unassigned YES unset up down

FastEthernet3 unassigned YES unset up down

But status of vlan 1 is up---

Vlan1 5.2.3.241 YES NVRAM up up<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

all ports are bydefault configured under vlan1...like below

R1#show vlan-switch id 1

VLAN Name Status Ports
---- -------------------------------- --------- -------------------------------
1 default active Fa0, Fa1, Fa2, Fa3                  <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Can someone please help me to identify the problem behind this, why vlan1 is showing up as all L2 ports are down??????

Hi,

you've got no autostate configured somewhere in the config so the behavior you've got is normal.

you've got to reenable the SVI autostate feature for your vlan 1 interface to be down

maybe this link would be more helpful:http://blog.ioshints.info/2009/07/followup-vlan-interface-status.html

R1#

Now pls advice me what should I do and why we are getting this unexpected result, your advice would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Cadet,

I read the document that u posted in last post...but it was not helpful.

I am still unable to understand why it is happening ..even this is a typical live router and only ethernet module is added under that and all interfaces are configured under vlan1 or accessing vlan1.

There is not any trunk port. All are configured as access port and in down state but vlan1 is showing up.

As i understand about the autostate exclude command, its not working out there , so there could not be any issue created by this command.

Please help me to find out this problem As I am still helpless and even googled is so many times but didn't find any satisfactory answer.

And also I have also seen this kind of issue so many times in different routers as well. And all are customer's live router.

I am again posting the snapshots--

FastEthernet0/0/0          unassigned      YES unset  up                    down

FastEthernet0/0/1          unassigned      YES unset  administratively down down

FastEthernet0/0/2          unassigned      YES unset  administratively down down

FastEthernet0/0/3          unassigned      YES unset  administratively down down

Vlan1                      10.184.253.250  YES NVRAM  up                    up

R1#sh vlan-switch

VLAN Name                             Status    Ports
---- -------------------------------- --------- -------------------------------
1    default                          active    Fa0/0/0, Fa0/0/1, Fa0/0/2, Fa0/0/3

There is no trunk---

R1#sh int trunk

R1#

No Autoexclude is configured bydefault---

R1#sh run | i auto

no autostate <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

And this Router and IOS version is below---

Awesome Cadet..now i understood by your last link.....Thnak you so much for helping me out in this problem...

By disabling through no autostate command vlan is not tracking any uplick port configured under that interface so, if any port status will go down...even if all...then it wont made any changes in vlan state it will show up up.

Thanks for this information brother..

But i am also looking for some help from your end if u can...Can you please provide me some better case-study or topology-based Switch protocol study material that will speacially help me to understand all switch protocol like STP, PVST, RSTP eo else in depth....

Thanks in advance..

Is this a new config?  Do you have anything connected to those ports?  What does it show if you do

"show runn interface fa0"
