Vlans on a 2960

Hi,

I am installing a new phone system over my network with multiple buildings and need to know about setting up a vlan. Can the 2960 auto sense what device is plugged in to a port by the ip address of the device and pick the vlan it should be on or do you have to set each port by that vlan.

Craig,

You have to manually specify the VLAN on the interface that you want it to belong to. The feature that you are trying to get is called as dynamic Vlan assignment. You can achieve this by the following :

1. Cisco ACS with dynamic vlan assignment based on the user authentication.

2. IEEE 802.1x with Cisco ACS.

3. Cisco NAC
