Voice Vlan is blocked - Pks dropped -- Please help

Dear Experts,

We have the topology like this :

CORE - Cisco 4510 --- Back Bone Vlan created here

    |

    |

    |

DIST - Nortel 5510 -- Voice and Data Vlan created here

   |

   |

   |b

Access - Cisco 2960 --- Data and Voic vlan untag and tag here i.e switchport access vlan 'data vlan' and switchport voice vlan 'voice vlan'

   /         \

  /             \

/                 \

IP Phone     IP Phone --- AVAYA - Nortel

     |                 |

     |                 |

     |                 |

   PC             PC

Problem is there : Some time suddenly the packets were dropped in voice vlan. In Nortel switches I can not find any logs not even in Cisco swtches.

Can you guide or hint what is the problem and how to mitigate the same?

What is the best practice to configure the Voice and Data vlan o nthe same port ?

Regards,

Hello,

I see no obvious problem in your deployment so far. A couple of questions:

  1. How do you detect or measure the loss of packets in the Voice VLAN?
  2. Does the connectivity dropout also affect the Data VLAN, or is it limited to Voice VLAN only?
  3. How long does the outage typically last?

My first hint would be to check for topology changes and resulting STP/RSTP reaction, resulting in several seconds of impaired connectivity. A simple connection or disconnection of an IP phone or a PC could cause this.

Best regards,

Peter
