Hi,
I have Infra setup like Avaya device for VoIP connected to switch 3850.
Planning to install a fax machine
Questions
1. Whether RJ45 will support RJ11, Since Fax Machine Jack out is RJ11
2. Avaya Device Placed in 9th Floor, I need to install Fax on 10th Floor, but connectivity from 9th floor to 10th floor is via switch 3850. Please advice whether I need to lay a separate line.

So the fax machine on the 10th floor needs to plug into the Avaya device on the 9th floor?
No you cannot plug the fax RJ11 into the 3850 switch.
Yes, an RJ45 wall jack can be compatible with an RJ11. I believe it translates to pins 4 & 5 on the RJ45. If the RJ11 doesn't fit in the RJ45 jack snugly it might be best just to give it an RJ45 end on one side.
If there is no copper infrastructure between the 9th and 10 floors it would probably be best to put in a separate line.

Hi,
Thanks for the valuable inputs
I have a question
1. In Avaya device all analog ports have RJ45 Jack. If I lay a RJ45 cable from Avaya to switch 3850 on 9th floor will it work. It will convert to IPV4?
2. If yes, how it will work? since we don't have Avaya device on 10th floor.
3. If I need to Lay a separate RJ11 cable from 9th floor to 10th floor for 1 port? Yes If I lay, in future if they need to fix another FAX then another line need to done.?
Need your valuable inputs to fix this issue in a simple and easier way.
Thanks

1- You cannot plug an analog device into the 3850 ports. It may be the same type connector, but totally different otherwise.
3- A standard analog line only requires two wires. If you run a single CAT5e or 6 cable from 9 to 10 you'd have 8 wires or capacity for 4 fax machines. It never hurts to run a little extra. Any good cable guy should be able to suggest the best way to do this.

Thank you so much...
If I lay a separate line for RJ11 from Avaya Device from 9th Floor to 10 Floor
Please let me know the methods to connect.
For Eg. I need to install 2 fax machine on 10 floor( I need to lay a 2 separate lines from Avaya Device 9th to 10th floor desk work station?
If you have any other solution please advice

As stated, a CAT5e or 6 cable has 8 wires.
1- If the 10th floor fax machine and possible future fax were to be right next to each other you could run the cable to that location. You could break out the cable to into four RJ11 jacks and use one for the current fax and the remaining 3 for growth.
2- If the fax machines on the 10th may be far apart from each other, then it may be best to terminate the CAT cable in the IT closet (if there is one) and then run individual pairs to the various fax machine locations and terminate them on RJ11 jacks.
Hope this makes sense and like I said, any good cabling contractor (if available) should be able to best say how it should be done.

Sorry, but that is not really my area of expertise and don't think it would be right for me to recommend something like that. Whatever you get I assume it will need to be compatible with your Avaya system.
