vPC keep-alive using FEX ports

We have a couple of Nexus 5648Q switches, each has an N2348UPQ FEX attached (not cross connected). We want to run vPC between the two switches, but don't want to use the management vrf for keep-alive. At the same time we don't want to waste a couple of 40G ports on the N5672Q's. So is it acceptable to use a 10G connection between the two FEX's?

I have never done this using FEX, but since the FEXs are not cross connected to both 2348 switches, I am not sure if that is possible. Remember if you use a  FEX for this purpose, if one of the FEXs go done you will lose the VPC keep-alive and that is why it is recommended to use a different switch or the out-of-band management port.
