vPC peer link and vPC peer member

Hi Friendz,

Would like to consult a vPC scenario (all Nexus 9K switches).

Current Setup :- We have two pairs of Nexus 9 K switches acting as Spine Switches. a vPC (peer link) is running between switch-A and B and another vPC (peer link) is running between switch C & D.

Switch A and B are running with Vlan 10,20,30,40 and Switch C & D are running with Vlan 50,60,70,80 etc.

For Switch A & B ....Access Switch-1 is connected which is for Vlan 10,20,30,40

From Switch C & D ...Access Switch-2 is connected for Vlan 50,60,70,80

 This is production setup.

Proposed Plan:  Due to some Technical refresh we are planning to change the connectivity and merging all VLANs on both Switches pairs (A&B , C&D). such that pair-1 (Switch A & B) can also have Van 50,60,70.,80 and vice versa for switch pair C & D.

Proposed Connectivity:-  We are Connecting Switch C with Switch A and Switch B and Switch D with Switch A and Switch B as a Peer member switch. Both the existing vPC (peer link) will remain as it is.

Could you please guide me for the configurations ...What all configuration we need to do on all switches.

Proposed diagram attached for clarity and reference.

 Rgds

Hi,

Your diagram looks correct.  You would need a VPC between switch-A, C and D and a VPC between switch-B, C and D.

The other option would be not to use switch-C and D at all and connect access switch 1 and 2 to switch-A and B and move all the vlans to switch-A and B.

This way you eliminate a layer of complexity that you may not need.

Hello Reza,

Could you please share any configuration example.

Understand, we have to configure Switch C & Switch D as vPC member and not as vPC peer.

Hi,

Have a look at the VPC design guide (link).  Here is an example

interface port
-
channel2
switchport
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan 100,200
vpc 2
