I inherited a network with two 6880s but the documentation does not show the devices IP address. I am able to locate the primary switch's IP but not the backup. Do you know of a command I can use to locate the backup 6880's IP address? Can you recommend VSS documentation? I am going through Cisco VSS whitepapers at the moment.

Hi;
With VSS configuration we combines a pair of switches (4500-X, 6500, 6800) into a single switch. The VSS simplifies network configuration and operation by reducing the number of Layer 3 routing neighbors and by providing a loop-free Layer 2 topology.
All configuration, interface, IP address & etc will be configured & verified via Primary/Active switch. In VSS the switch-1 interface become G1/X/Y (1-indicate switch 1, X-indicate Module, Y-indicate ports no) while Switch-2 interface become G2/X/Y.
You can find the below link for further detail on VSS.

Thanks & Best regards;

You will have only 1 ip address for the VSS switch since 2 Chassis(switches)are combined in to 1 Logical one. This combines both switch's control and management plane so you cannot individually login to the backup switch.
PS: This is unlike to the VPC set up between Nexus switches where you do not combine the management and control plane and hence both switches you would be able to access.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Madhu.
