Hello,

I had today an issue with VSS switch.

I upload the IOS file on the switch through tftp. After that, I tried to copy the file on standby switch. After the process were done, the standby switch was reloaded automatically.

When the switch were came back, we put a console and see that the switch were in recovery mode. The switch couldn't boot from the newest ios on it, even if it has configured as the documentation says.

Switch# config terminal

Switch(config)# config-register 0x2

Switch(config)# boot system flash filename.bin

Switch# copy running-config start-config

Can you please help me to understand why the switch were reloaded?

I really need to upgrade the IOS, but I don't want to do it before having the exactly process and meanings.

Thank you!

Maybe the IOS is corrupt.  Besides, the config registry value of 0x2 ... where did you get that idea?  The correct config-registry value is 0x2102.

Please see the attachment, at "Performing a Software Upgrade" subtitle.

I can try to do like this with the config-registry config.

Thank you!

As Leo also noted, it should be 0x2102
