Hi
I have just configured VSS between 2 6504 cisco switches.
I have enabled the vss as such -
switch virtual domain 4
switch mode virtual
switch 1 priority 255
mac-address use-virtual
The other switch was switch 2 priority 1.
On the port-channel which is set to 254 for both switches -
interface Port-channel254
description VSL-Etherchannel
no switchport
no ip address
switch virtual link 1
mls qos trust cos
no mls qos channel-consistency
Thats on switch 1 on switch 2 it set it for switch virtual link 2.
Funny thing is when i look at sh int status for the tengig links i am using for this it shows notconnect.
On the sh ip int brief the interfaces show up and down
Yet the VSS appears to be working because when i do the following -
sh switch virtual -- i get
Switch mode : Virtual Switch
Virtual switch domain number : 4
Local switch number : 1
Local switch operational role: Virtual Switch Active
Peer switch number : 2
Peer switch operational role : Virtual Switch Standby
And if i do - sh switch virtual troubleshooting
Peer Peer Peer Peer Timer(s)running
Interface Flag State Flag MAC Switch Interface (Time remaining)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Te1/1/5 vfsp operational vfsp c471.fe31.c740 2 Te2/1/4 T4(616ms)
T5(29.93s)
Te1/1/4 vfsp operational vfsp c471.fe31.c740 2 Te2/1/5 T4(616ms)
T5(29.93s)
Switch Group Number Oper(Conf) Oper(Conf) SID SID
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Local 0 TRUE 1 UP N (N ) 255(255) ACTIVE 0 0
Remote 1 TRUE 2 UP N (N ) 1 (1 ) STANDBY 5830 6913
Finally
sh switch virtual link
Oxford6504-1#sh switch virtual link
VSL Status : UP
VSL Uptime : 1 hour, 32 minutes
VSL SCP Ping : Pass
VSL ICC Ping : Pass
VSL Control Link : Te1/1/4
And obviously i can see all the interfaces on the master switch and cannot connect to the sup on the standby switch
Have i a problem or is this normal and should i ignore the sh int status and sh ip int brief.
Many thanks
Steve

Why would you connect on the standby supervisor ?
The active one controls all the line cards, has control on both chassis and controls all layer 2 and 3 traffic.

the console in the standby supervisor is disabled
