Hello @amh4y0001 ,

your understanding is correct on branch small routers these WAN ports are dedicated for routing with the internet or whatever you want to connect to.

Hope to help

Hello @amh4y0001 ,

WAN ports are routed ports and they can be used as internet uplinks.

IF you need additional LAN ports the best choice is to add an 8 ports LAN switch to be connected downstream one LAN port of the router.

Hope to help

Hi and thanks for reply. So if I understand correctly, WAN ports can't be used as LAN?

My bad, I didn't quite get "8 ports LAN switch to be connected downstream one LAN port of the router".

Depends on what you're trying to accomplish. (I also assume the "WAN" port is copper/fiber Ethernet.)

Many small router WAN Ethernet ports cannot do "switch" L2 (doesn't always mean you cannot connect them on a LAN) and/or offer "special" features more useful to WAN than LAN, such as enhanced QoS and/or additional buffer resources (again, doesn't always mean cannot be used with a Ethernet LAN). (BTW, this is somewhat like asking how a switch with "uplink" ports can be used.)

You also mention "combine" ports. Much depends on how you wish to combine and what you're going to connect to.
