Very new to this. I'm trying to set up this switch donated to my church. I have tried to do an express setup and once I get to the landing page for the web interface, clicking the link for the web management I get a 404. Do I need to update the firmware. Be gentle!

The reason for this is because the switch's firmware has been upgraded without the HTML files included.

Hey @pwhite106 before jumping to a new image there are a few things you might want to check first. Ensure that you've correctly configured the switch's IP address and that your computer is on the same network subnet, try sending a ping to IP address of the switch. Also, try accessing the web interface using both HTTP and HTTPS protocols.

I found this document which will help https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2960xr/hardware/quick/guide/b_gsg_2960xr.html

Thanks for the reply. This article is what I'm trying to follow. I'm at about step 7 and I get this screen so I believe I am contacting the switch, however when I click the link circled in red, I get a 404 page not found. Am I wrong in thinking this is the page needed to configure the switch? Again thanks for the help.

Happy to help! See this link, looks like the same issue https://community.cisco.com/t5/switching/using-the-web-console-if-possible-to-manage-a-2960-switch/td-p/1795219

The story is the same for both Cat2960 and Cat2950: to support web based management you need to have embedded web based device manager. When downloading the system image file from Cisco you need to choose combined tar file which includes both the IOS and web based device manager. The simple indication whether you have downloaded (and extracted) the proper file is the presence (or absence) of "html" directory within your flash. As there is none in your flash you have installed just the IOS image without the web console support.

I'm reading this and it sounds a bit complicated for my skill level in this area. Is there a free management tool I can download and install on my computer to manage this switch?

@pwhite106 I am not aware of one, sorry.

Please note : to be able to use the GUI you need to download and install the software

OK. I'm just using the CLI to configure. I might address this later. Good to know the reason.
