What do you use as an access server?

Hello,

I've got a rack of switches which I'm using for my CCNP switch exam and I was just wondering what you guys have used in the past as an access server, at the moment I'm having to keep moving the console cable to the right switch etc which is a pain.  Any ideas on what I could use?  I have an old PC and laptop but I wasn't sure if I could use this in some what as an access server, I could put Windows or Linux on it.

Thanks for any ideas.

Hi,

You can use a 2511 as a terminal server. The       2511  router allows for a maximum of 16 devices to be remotely accessible  (AS-2511-RJ)

Hi,

For CCIE racks a Cisco 2511 are normally used, they are very very cheap, and you can conect a lot of devices to just one device with the proper cables.
