What is an official definition of a reciprocal protection group for vPCs?

I do remember actually saying in a blog post one time that a reciprocal protection group for vPCs meant every second switch - and I do actually believe that is the case, although I don't have the equipment right here to prove it.

Could one of you wonderful friends out there supply me with either:

  1. A Cisco document that actually tells me what a reciprocal protection group for vPCs, or
  2. a screen shot showing VPC Protection Groups configured as a reciprocal protection group with leaf numbers showing

TIA

Hello Chris,

AFAIK, the reciprocal option will map odd nodes or even nodes together to form the vPC domain. My understanding seems to be confirmed by the examples below:

vpc domain consecutive
Description: Pair all discovered leaves consecutively e.g. 101-102, 103-104
Command Mode: configure : Configuration Mode
Command Path:
# configure [['terminal', 't']]
(config)# vpc domain consecutive

vpc domain reciprocal
Description: Pair all discovered leaves reciprocally e.g. 101-103, 102-104
Command Mode: configure : Configuration Mode
Command Path:
# configure [['terminal', 't']]
(config)# vpc domain reciprocal

At the moment I do not have access to my lab, but I will give it a try later this week.

Stay safe,

Sergiu

Thanks Sergiu - I didn't think of looking at the CLI! But just like the document, it is right there.

apic1(config)# vpc domain ?
consecutive Pair all discovered leaves consecutively e.g. 101-102, 103-104
explicit Pair two leaf nodes explicitly
reciprocal Pair all discovered leaves reciprocally e.g. 101-103, 102-104

Pity they didn't think to put the same information on the GUI help page!
