What is most possibly reason ping can pass PE but traceroute cannot?

Hi CRS router works as PE, What is most possibly reason ping can pass PE and reach the destination, but traceroute cannot? The the traceroute is launched from CE. But after three hops, it stops with continuous sign " * * * "

With ping only the target device needs to respond but with traceroute every L3 hop in the path from the source to the destination needs to respond and it may be that one of the devices is configured not to respond to traceroute or there are acls blocking it etc.

I agree with Jon, also traceroute could be limited on the MPLS network, mpls ip propagate-ttl (foward) could be disabled. 

Asterisks *** could represent  ACL or firewall installed over the path to the destination.
